this is a good day!
i didn't drink coffee at all monday, tuesday, or wednesday. i was quite addicted, which showed more true this morning than it had yet. yes, i had the headaches and the groggy feeling all three days, but it subsided to almost nothing yesterday. but then this morning, when i woke up for the fourth morning in a row before dawn, i felt completely awake! the terrible groggy feeling that makes getting out of bed the most painful experience you've ever had (at least it feels that way at the moment) was gone! my brain wasn't craving the caffeine, so i was able to wake up naturally instead of needing a chemical to help me on my way. it was a glorious feeling.
yesterday was a good day as well. i got off work at 1pm and headed up to sioux city. i drove Jo, and met up with Jen and Chris, Jessie, Sarah B., and Dori. it was a good time! i always feel so refreshed after being with those girls. it was a little weird, seeing all of them so close to home (usually it takes 12 hours in the car to get to them!). i wish it could happen more often.
the drive home was hard.. i had such a hard time staying alert! my eyes kept threatening to close. it was nice, though.. i got to catch up a bit with Stephie.. God's been doing a lot of awesome stuff in her life lately, and it was incredibly encouraging to hear about it! i always love to hear what kind of stuff He's teaching people and how those people are changing because of it.
my day is almost over.. a couple more hours, and it's date night! Matt and i have hardly seen each other this week. last night, after getting home late from iowa, he teased me a bit.. after crawling into bed, he put his arm over me, turned me towards him, and said "oh, wow.. i DO have a wife!". but tonight, from the time i get off work until as late as i can make myself stay up, is "us time". i can hardly wait.

better days
i just love that song by the goo goo dolls.. if you haven't heard it, you have to check it out.
today is one of those better days. yesterday was awful. the words that escaped my mouth by evening were "it was one of the worst five days ever at my job!". there was so much tension (long story as to why.. let's just leave it at tension), and many expletives going through my mind. thankfully, i was very aware of what God was saying as well, so i held my tongue and chose to love instead of murder. and today has been better. it feels lighter in here, and i'm in a much better mood, although extremely tired!
i had lunch today at the greek place down the way with my sister and Jo. we laughed a lot, caught up on life, and just had an all around great time.
tomorrow, we drive to sioux city to meet up with lots of really cool people - people i haven't seen for months, and i can hardly wait! it should be a good time.
i'm tired; therefore, i'm having a hard time finding interesting things to say. hopefully this wasn't too boring.... from now on, this girl needs to get more sleep! though it's hard when you're married to a night person.. ;)

seven weeks tomorrow
whew! it's been about a year and a half since i posted here, and i must say: it was quite fun looking back and reading through some of my old posts! it's interesting seeing where i was a year and a half ago.. Matt and i had just started dating!! for an update, let's just say that we've progressed a little. :)
on that note, married life is fabulous!! it has it bumps and sometimes bruises, but i wouldn't trade it for the world. i love waking up beside him. i love how he draws me close at night.. both for warmth, and because we're both very "cuddle-up" type of people! i love how he looks at me when he tells me i'm beautiful, and that he loves me. he makes me coffee every morning, and does most of the cooking and cleaning. he's amazing to me! i can't wait to see where God takes us for the rest of our lives.
okay, so it's my goal to start writing in here again. it shouldn't be too much of an issue; i'm still working at the bank, and business is slow!!! slow really isn't a strong enough word, but i can't think of anything better, so we'll go with it. but all that to say, i can post while here; it'll distract me for at least a few minutes out of the day!
until then, much love, and happy friday!

some may say
first of all, my apologies for the significant gap between my last post and this one. life has gotten a little bit crazy.
you see, i have this problem. it's not a major problem really, just one that causes me more than the needed level of stress in my life. what's my problem? overcommitment.
some may say that i'm leading three different lives.. school, work, and everything else; each one on its own being enough to keep any normal human being busy. but alas, i have all three. i'm taking four classes, do around 15-20 hours of homework a week, and i work 27 hours. plus, as anyone who reads this blog knows, i have a mostly new, growing relationship with a very special boy. and who knew how much time that would take??? i sure didn't. but it's worth every second. oh, and then there's church. i'm on leadership, where i run this thing called the "connection center". without going into details, let's just say that it takes around ten hours out of my week.
a lot of times, i have to remind myself to breathe.
there is a happy ending to all of this. at least, i'm pretty convinced that there is. i know for a fact that i'm supposed to be in omaha, going to school, living on my own, and dating Matt. i also know being involved at church (though maybe not to the extent) is something that i need to have in my life. and i also know that all of these things have been put into place in my life because of my obedience to what God has spoken to me. and lately, what He's been speaking to me is peace, and also that He has not set me up to fail. so hold on tight.. this could be the ride of your life!! and the best part? i'm not in control!! He is in complete control of my life and all the details, because i've given Him that place. it takes a lot of pressure off.
since i know you're wondering, here's an update on the man in my life.
we're doing marvelously. sometimes it seems like there's no way i could like him more than i do right now, but then, always to my surprise, i'll see him, and i'll realize that yes, as a matter of fact, i DO like him more than i did yesterday. he's an amazing man of God, and so much more than i ever expected. sometimes i have that thought, "do i really deserve him?"
i was panicking about my "to-do" list yesterday, pretty near a breakdown. life just feels too crazy sometimes.. and when i take it on myself, the breakdown begins. he came over, took my hand, and we prayed together. i couldn't believe how much that helped! it brought so much peace.. and just knowing how much he cared, and that he was right there with me...
i think i've found a keeper.
my sister meets him tomorrow.. hopefully she'll like him (almost) as much as i do. i don't see how she couldn't!
ps-Stephie, it's your turn! :)

that's my man
the plan was to get lots of sleep this weekend.
you see, when i don't get eight hours of sleep a night, i feel it. i can go for two or three nights like that, but then it's necessary for me to play catch-up.
for two weeks now, i've gotten no more than seven hours of sleep. i think i've averaged around 6-6.5. so i thought, i'll just sleep a lot this weekend!!
i am sad to report that it didn't happen....
and now i'm at work, barely able to keep my eyes open.
Matt told me on saturday that there was a concert on sunday night, and would i be interested in going? when told who it was, i realized i didn't have a choice. i had to go!!
so after terra nova, we headed down to sokol, on the complete opposite side of town from trinity, to see one of my favorite bands in concert: stavesacre.
it was well worth the time and money! of course, to my surprise, i didn't have to pay for anything.. the taco bell or the $10 ticket price. my wonderful boyfriend decided i shouldn't have to pay for anything. isn't it grand?
stavesacre came on at 11pm and proceeded to give a fabulous show. halfway through, they played "freefall", my second favorite song, and one that i've never heard them play live (even though i've seen them in concert more times than i remember!!). a little after midnight, they said they had one more song to play. they started playing a rift i didn't recognize, and the disappointment swept in.. "they're not going to play my favorite song!!!" then they hit that oh-so-familiar chord..... and on it came. "with a sigh i greet the day..."
the best part of the concert was how it felt in the room. the band's focus isn't on the music, and it's not on the crowd. it's on their Lord and Savior, and they make it obvious that they give Him credit for their lives and music (they never really say it; it's just that obvious). as we left the concert, i turned to Matt and said "it felt like the Holy Spirit was there rocking right along with us!"
he got me home somewhere between 12 and 1. instead of doing the smart thing and going straight to sleep, we stood and looked at the beautiful full moon and talked until 1:30. then, to impress you all even more, he offered to pick me up in the morning for class so i could sleep an extra 40 minutes. b/c if he dropped me off, i didn't have to hunt for a parking space!! he got up three hours before he needed to so he could take me to school, slightly less tired than i would've otherwise been.
impressed yet?
oh, and when he picked me up after class, he brought me coffee.

special day
it's his birthday!!
today, i get to celebrate the day he was born. an easy thing to do, because right now, i can't imagine life without him.
i woke up at a little before 7 this morning and headed to my spanish class. from there, i made a stop at matt's house.. he was waiting on the porch for me. i came bearing the first string of gifts: a big, cool coffee mug with a half pound coffee from caffeine dreams inside, a card, and a picture of me. the thing he got most excited about was the picture.... hmmmm.....
he loved it. all of it.
oh, and by the way, he looked really cute this morning!!
on my lunch break, i made a mad dash to 13th st. to the zoo gift shop to get him a stuffed monkey. yes, there is a story there.. but you'll just have to stay curious about that one.
the best thing of all? i'm taking him out to dinner. not just anywhere, mind you.. but to his favorite kind of food.. and a kind that i hate. any guesses yet?
well, in case you haven't figured it out, and seeing that i really didn't give any hints, i don't think any less of you. it's sushi. and you should've seen how excited he got when i told him!
it'll be a good night. it's been a good day! it's fun making someone's day special.
he's an amazing guy. and he's my boyfriend. it's still weird for me to say that.

name
i realize that up to this point, i have yet to use the name of the guy i so frequently refer to. watch for it.. it may come sooner than you think.
he had a bad day yesterday. first of all, he was already not feeling the best about life.... i won't give details on that.. it's not my place to do so. but let's just say he wasn't doing the best. he had a job interview at 10am that went well, but it wasn't what he was expecting (which was a little discouraging). on his way home, he had a not-so-pleasant experience with a police officer. when he called to tell me how the interview went, i could tell by the tone in his voice he wasn't doing so well..... then i got busy and had to let him go.
a while later, i called and asked him to come eat lunch with me. he'd already eaten, but i so badly wanted to do something to possibly help his day.
he picked me up, and on the way to burger king, i reached for his hand.. he thanked me.. and held on tight. all through lunch, he didn't let go.. it's not so easy eating a sandwich with one hand!! at one point, he took my one hand in both of his, closed his eyes, and held my hand close to him. i asked him what he was doing.. his response.. he was just enjoying being with me.
wow.
one of these days, it's going to happen.. he's going to make me cry.
